More Horse Power
I own a 2000 GT with a 4.6L stock engine. I have upgraded to FlowMaster cat back, BBK cold air induction, and BBK 75mm throttle body. In addition I port matched the intake plenum to the throttle bottle and smoothed out the stock castings. The gains are noticible probably around 30-40 HP. I want more. I haven't bolted on headers yet which is a logical next step. Anyone out there throw NOS on a stock 4.6L to safely add 75-100 HP?

Re: More Horse Power
not my self but i know of people doing it with less work then you happen to have. their motors are running fine after using 75 shots. I've read that the 4.6 can take 100 safly but always err on side of cation if your not sure. As long as you get enough fuel in the motor n20 is safe and great upgrade i think.
My self id rather get set of headers then n20 kit due to the headers "allways on" factor |

Re: More Horse Power
go with the kenne-bell supercharger... only a couple grand for the 6psi kit. its a lot of $$ initially, but you'll have the power ALL OF THE TIME! not just when u push a little red button.
good thing is, it has been fabricated so that you do not need to do any internal mods. this is all for 351 WHEEL hp. www.kennebell.net |

I say go with nitrous. Its alot cheaper. Since we were talking about nitrous in the first place i know a guy who put a 100 shot on there and it did fine for like 2 years until he took it off, then put a 15 psi supercharger and it blew up. That's besides the point though. I personally like power at the push of a button.

nitrous being cheaper is a myth... it's just a low initial investment. there's more chance of destroying your motor with nitrous, especially if you don't know what you're doing. if the air/fuel mixture is wrong, your intake will be about 100 feet above your head milliseconds after you hit the little red button. then again, dont' upgrade your injectors and try to run 15 PSI and the same thing will happen =).
the main reason for the nitrous/cheaper thing being a myth is because of 1 thing: the nitrous itself. every time you empty that bottle, it has to be filled again. and that costs about 50 bucks depending on where you go. so just keep all that in mind before you go nuts =)

I'd hate to have to refill my bottle in your state. Around here Nitrous fill up on a 10lb bottle is about $36.00
Nitrous being cheaper a myth hmmm. Well your right about it being cheaper initially. A good nitrous kit will run you about $500. bucks vs say $3,000 on a good supercharger. Yeah I guess after about 70 bottles you have paid for a supercharger. But like stangnut said think about what you want. It takes hp to drive a supercharger and its there all the time and so is the strain it puts on the motor. Nitrous is there only when called upon. I go to the track from time to time, I don't hang out there because its hard on your car and I for one don't have the cash to shell out everytime I break something. I prefer to cruise and kick a little ass when I need to. Nitrous serves that purpose very, very well. I average about two bottles a month maybe. Last edited by eillob; 04-25-2004 at 11:56 PM. |

Re: More Horse Power
When I was 14 I saw an very good lookin 89' civic si blow two injectors while leaving a car show "trying" to show off by peeling out all the way to to 3rd gear. When he squeezed in 2nd or 3rd and #1 injector cracked and #3 injector blew out and the car burst in flames. All injectors where stock. After that I had a strang dislike for nitro. Its all about proper tuning.
