Finally get to run an SRT4

Heading home after work I notice a blue car, behind me kinda close. I see he has a hood scoop similar to the srt4 but still not knowing exactly what car it is. So I play lets get side by side and switch lanes to the right to left and he immediatly gets to my right. As i presumed an electric blue 2004 srt4. I know this from asking the 20ish old looking guy what year when side by side. Then he gives me a little run by in 2nd gear. I also give him alittle ventage from the greddy type s. Well we both like up side by side, its obvious were going to go at it. running at 4000 rpms in 2nd gear I supose hes in the same gear with similar rpms. my front bumper is at his driver side door when i notice his car go WOT then immediatly as does mine. 6500 rpms in 2nd gear his front bumper is to my passenger side door and shift into 3rd. 3rd gear at 5000 rpms his front bumper is to my back bumper when my 18 psi turns into 20psi BAM fuel cut... I immidiatly shut down and we both catch the next red light. First word from his mouth is..ITS STOCK.. I reply not bad, I reply by sayin the 18 inch chromes and 3500 pound car hitting fuel cut in 3rd gear aint exactly saying im race ready. Then he replies with the im stock again and turnes as the light turns green. This is the closest race sence ive added the 14b.

I know I have bad memory....

In a few previous posts, didn't you claim to be able to run something like a high 300 hp mark once you get your 14b turbo ?

Re: Finally get to run an SRT4

At the end of third I was about 1 car ahead before I hit fuel cut(him to my back bumper). My boost gauge is sitting at 11 hgs witch means im getting a MAJOR boost leak(norm hgs is 19-20). concluding ecu is reading a overflow of fuel and not enough air tis why im hitting fuel cut on boost creep. This only means I need to find the boost leak, bigger injectors and some type of air/fuel control. Then can I run 20+ psi safely. If this does not clear anything up please ask.

Re: Finally get to run an SRT4

Umm, just because you get a good air/fuel ratio doesn't mean it's safe to boost over 20psi. Looking in your sig I see you don't have any internals done and it's not safe to boost that much on stock internals on a GST. Your post is confusing, if I misunderstood you lemme know.

Re: Finally get to run an SRT4

I'm kinda lost here. I mean you have a smaller turbo then the Neon (Neon's come with a TD 04/05 from what I have been told, better known as the 16g). With the mods you have listed you can't be pushing over 260 whp, or atleast I wouldn't think that you would, cause Turbo Magazine tested the maximum output per turbo on the 4g63 engines (I believe they have the 16, g, 20 g, etc.. tested). His car is lighter then yours. Then again anything can happen on the street. Maybe this dude couldn't drive.

Re: Re: Finally get to run an SRT4

1- 4g63 need's no reinfocement to take 20 psi of boost, the motors are very string and can withstand 22psi saftly with proper fuel managment.
2- with those mods dsm can easly see 260hp the 14b turbo is good for 300hp,my boy has a 1g TSI and hes making well over 250whp with those same mods and a well tuned ecu, yes i know that the 1g 4g63 and the 2g 4g63 doesnt take the same to mods.. the shitty t-25 will top out around 230 if your lucky, also the 14b mich flow better on the 4g63 then the "16g" does on the neon.. rember its still a neon..
nice kill man, get the boost creep fixed and bigger injectors and get a s-afc and tune the shit out of that motor, have fun boosting..

Re: Finally get to run an SRT4

Hmm, according to Turbo magazine they tested the 4g63 engine in the Galant VR4 (I believe it came with the 14b turbo stock). Baseline runs for the car were 190.6 whp/ 198.2 wtq (Sept. 2002 issue). They added these bolt ons to it: K&N Filter, DDP exh, DDP downpipe, spearco intercooler, DDP cat, TeamRip mass air. After all those mods the car registered 271.5 whp/302.7 wtq. He doesn't have anywhere near those number of mods. I wouldn't say 250 whp is feasible.

Re: Re: Finally get to run an SRT4

you cant belive everything magazine tells you... some of them is pure b.s. and also some mods that they do can be done in other ways, btw turbo back exhaust is usually a full 2.5-3" turbo back sys, which includes downpipe, turbo elbow, test pipe or hi flow cat, and cat back, i been studying dsm for a long time now , i wanted 2 for the longest and still do, they are capabe cars that take little tuning to go fast, i say 250 is well in reach with his mods, btw look at www.dsmtuners.com it will give you a little idea of how easy it is to tune a dsm.

There is one thing I'm very confused about. If you hit fuel cut at 20 psi means that for at least a few moments you were running insanelly lean, how did that not destroy your engine.

Last time i saw a turbo car go kaboom was an evo, and its walbro pomp just bit the dust under full boost/load and the engine went kaput in a sec.

Re: Finally get to run an SRT4

i dont know but my car runs in to fuel cut, i need the s-afc II myself cause i cant go above 12 psi without it cutting in, but at the same time i'm running rich, but not too rich.

Are you sure that is fuel cut and not ignition cut? Because fuel cut can be very dangerous due to instant lean situation especially under full boost.

Re: Finally get to run an SRT4

well everyother vr4 woner with a boost controller knows that the s-afc eliminates the cut out, its a known thing in dsm and 3kgt/stealth owners that the fuel cut comes in to play, and you need a fuel controller. so.......... unless were all mistakin, then yeah its fuel cut. you can even check the web and you'll find that they speak on 3kgt owners when they get what they think is boost cut, they simply need the safc and, wallla....... job is done
