2000 Silouette Fuel filter replacement

This years trip to Florida yielded me 2 MPG's less than last year.
On talk radio this morning a guy that lost 2 MPG's was advised to replace the fuel filter. Any tips in installation ?
Heck, for all I know I have to drop the gas tank on this to replace it. (65,000 miles on my van) .

Try a new pc valve. That did it for me its an easy and cheap place to start. Also several other things can affect milage ie. weight, tire pressure, oil type, clogged air filter, and alignment to list a few.

I doubt its the fuel filter if its clogged it would deliver less gas not more causing it (in theory) to use less gas causing more mpg not less.

As far as where it is I havent looked I have 95,000 mi and have never needed to replace the filter. Its on the list of summer maintenance though. A haynes manual will tell you where it is but I doubt its in the tank its probably next to it though and be careful Ive gotten it in my eyes before working under them to get it off the car.

That's amazing. I have 3 cars and 3 motorcycles...
Today I will try to restrict the fuel system delivery to the intake
to get better mileage. Thanks for the tip.

I might only go 5-10 MPH but what gas savings !

The fuel filter is located somewhere underneath the middle of the car (in the vicinity of the gas tank). It is fairly easy to replace; however, the car has to be jacked up or be on a lift. I did not replace it myself on my car but I watched the guy do it. After disconnecting the fuel line hose(s), there is going to be some fuel spray because the system is under pressure. However, this guy did not relieve the fuel pressure first. After a few seconds, the fuel stopped spraying and the guy replaced the filter. This was an independent shop, not the dealer. Usually, I do most minor auto work myself. I got it done from this shop because I thought the price was pretty reasonable -- $39.99 plus tax.

The fuel filter is 1/2 way between engine and fuel tank on drivers side of car. Put van on ramps, get 10 mm wrench, unbolt filter, loosen fittings (no tool needed) disconnect filter, install new one, bolt to frame, turn key on for a few seconds and turn off, do this a few times to help in starting, start van, check for leaks, back off ramps and you are done, takes 5 minutes max. You may have to pull fuel line out of retaining clip before disconnecting. Filter is around $13 at Autozone.

Be careful of the seals and spacer ring left on the fuel line by the old filter. (Happens 9 times out of 10) They must be removed before the new filter will fit...

Lightbulb fuel filter replacement

You might want to consider getting a package of the plastic snap clips that hold the lines into the fuel filter. Sometimes they break when removing them (couple of dollars saves another trip) and the filter only comes with one of the 2 clips! Also available at Autozone.
