exhaust....
ok u know how the 93 camry on has that stupid damn exhaust? how the pipe goes in the side not the back of the muffler.... i was just wondering why they did this?

Probably to keep something from getting extremely hot somewhere, or maybe it was just because it was efficient. Or maybe, just maybe, it was the cool thing for dealerships and manufacturers to come up with in the day.

Maybe they got a great deal on 10,000,000 mufflers and needed to find somewhere to use them.

That's the way you should do it, you come across something that's not done the way you like it, then rip it apart and do it yourself. It's your car, and that's the whole concept of customization.

Brian, I read an article about that in Motor Trend and also in Auto Week, and so far they've said it's only in Canada. Plus, I really don't think modifying the muffler would set you on grounds for refusal of insurance, or at least not yet anyways...

You're probably right about the scope of the problem currently, but to me, it looks like a trend that will eventually spread. They will use any excuse to avoid paying out. The way it's going, any custom work on a car that might have contributed to an accident will let them off the hook.
The bottom line is: Keep your eyes open for the fine print. |

Yeah, I agree. Sadly, it will more than likely spread all over the country, and before you know it, our cars will be parked up in the garage, all covered up, no tags, no insurance, and flat tires. Everyone knows what they're trying to do, and that's make us conform to the "normal" driving world. Insurance companies are cheap, and they will do anything for more money, just like many other companies out there. I really wish that I could get into insurance, and then provide service to only the car enthusiast, regardless of what parts were on it or whatever. It would be very nice. But that's probably not a reality here. Anyways, it sucks, and I do think that everyone should watch out for the fine print. Don't let the insurance company f*ck you over.

Don't tell them. Just make sure you take it off and make it stock before you bring it in for an appraisal.

That's what I'd do. I'd give it a couple of days before the appraisal date, rip all of my aftermarket stuff off, set it all back to stock and bring it in. After that, come back home, put all of my other stuff back in, and laugh evilly about how deceitful I had just been...
