do i need to install keyless entry?
hey guys, first time user here. i have a 2000 civic LX that came with the stock radio (i will soon intall a new kenwood head unit). If i want to install keyless entry can i just get a transmitter and program it with the stock head unit and then stick the stock up in the dash, or do i need to completely intall the keyless entry system from scratch?
My pocketbook and I appreciate your help. |

Re: do i need to install keyless entry?
Yeah my friend just had his stock unit tucked up under the dash. They have a wireing harness that will bypass that so you can remove the old head unit completely. it also makes it so your dome light still functions.

ok, two follow- up questions:
how can i be sure that my 2000 LX comes with factory installed keyless, because i dont want to buy a transmitter and then just need to get the whole thing installed. I've seen two different stats regarding factory intsalled keyless: 96-98 and 96+... which is right? secondly, where could i get one of these wonderful wiring harnesses? thanks for the advice bud

I am almost possitive that a circut city or best buy would or could have them. Or if you cant find one i could find one and ship it to you.

Re: do i need to install keyless entry?
Today, I went to Circuit City to see how much it would cost (with labor) to get an Alpine CDA-9827 CD/MP3 Encoder player, and it was $259.99 (labor included), but with a DIN kit, and a stock wiring harness, and a 98+ Wiring Harness it costed a total of $320, so I was like, no way, I'll put it in myself for all of that ($207 for H/U, $16.99 for 98+ Wiring Harness for keyless entry on my 96 Civic, and $16.99 for the DIN faceplate = $240.)
I bought a Metra Honda/Acrua 1998-Up Wiring Harness for my 96 Honda Civic EX with Keyless Entry from BestBuy for $16.99 (can somebody clarify that that wiring harness will work with my car?) and then I got an American International 1996-1998 Honda Civic DIN Kit (you'll need a 2000 of course lol) for $16.99 also.
