96 SL vs Mustang GT 97. The SL lost

both stock. Now i've heard alot of ppl say that the SL could take a 98 or down, mustang GT. The SL lost, wtf?? and not just once, i even raced my SL against the Mustang, and mine is the same as my friend's SL. So i guess we underestimated the Mustangs GT 97 or something

Yea i remembered that thread. Oh well either way both cars have about the same HP, sl has alittle more But the mustang has hella alot more torque. That's what probaly made the sl lose. Was the race close or blow out?

close at first, but he kept gaining up on me, and then after a stop sign, i messed up the launching with a horrible burn out... So ya as the RWD car took off i decided to give up... And yeah whats up with the torque in the SL? 205?! wtf?! thats nothing. The damn 97 GT mustang has 285 torque.... I feel cheated.

Yea even though the ford V8 dosent push as much power as some of the GM's but dont forget it's still a V8 they can get alot of torque, more than a v6 that is.

you mean 99+, and thats with a good driver. As for the stang, its cause you screwed up your launch you got beat, if you can get off the line, you should win if your a better driver because stang owners tell me that 1st and 2nd gear aren't real good in their car, which is where torque matters, and 3rd gear is when torque does not matter, and you have whp advantage (FWD is better than RWD in drivetrain loss). All i know is that i've been in a 2001 Stang GT and i wasn't impressed, it didnt really compare that much to an LT1.
