Are Talon's reliable?

I've owned Honda's and Acura's and haven't had too much pain with them. What are DSM's like? I would guess the Eclipse and Talon's are pretty much the same reliability wise? I just want something that I won't have to worry about too much.

There's one I'm looking at now that I would probably get if I knew how these cars run.

I would yes it all depends on how the previous owner has treated it, true with all car but especailly with Talons.

Re: Are Talon's reliable?

I would have to agree with BaNe on this one.'

Also (i'm sure you might've heard this) DSM's are known for having transmission problems, so I'd look into that.

Other than that I recommend them, they responde well to mods, if you're interested in that. Good luck!

Thumbs up

I've got a '92 Talon that I absolutely love. The first six to nine months were a little rocky--I bought it used, and the previous owner(s?) had made a mess of it--but once the bugs were worked out, it's been great. I have put three trannies in it (first was obviously previous owners abuse, as I had had it for all of two months), but the next two were all me. 'Course, I redline it every day on the way to work It's probably not as reliable as the '86 Celica ST I used to own, but it's a lot more fun.

In short, the best answer I can give is that if I were to replace my car, the ONLY kind of car I'd be looking for is a TSi or GSX.

Re: Are Talon's reliable?

The transmission issue i believe is only for auto, they have the probs not the 5 speed. Far as reliable yes well like they said depends on the previous owner. I bought my 95 tsi awd for 4,000 6 months ago and had to replace all wheel bearings both front cv shafts, lower ball joints and thats about it besides all the mods i have done.
But by the looks of all the mods the car has never been pampered but if well maintained who cares right?

Wink Re: Are Talon's reliable?

Are Talons reliable?? Are you kidding? No matter what anybody says, if you take care of your talon/eclipse it'll be reliable and stay reliable. Same with any car. But if you're gonna do that... Dont even bother getting one! You don't deserve an eagle talon if yer not gonna beat on it. And when you beat on it, they Do give you a little trouble. But you should be ready for that already if you have purchased one. It's like a Hot/Sexy guy that you've had in your back pocket for a while... Even though, after a while you get sick of his same old shit, once yer ready for a REAL ride, he's the one yer going to. (=
A talons purpose is to be driven and driven HARD!! It wouldn't be happy if it wasn't.

Have a look - definitely DO NOT buy a car from Ontario.
