One more question-temp guage

first i just wanted to say thanks...this is a great forum with great members and i just wanna ask you guys one more thing.

ok ive been having alot of electrical problems lately and i think i have it almost all fixed. one of the last problems im having is that my temperature guage is dead and doesnt move at all. is this problem most likely caused by the temp sending unit? and is there a way to check it somehow? if so where on the engine is it located?

also this problem first occured when i blew my alternator and since ive replaced it the engine and alt. seem to get VERY hot. im not sure if its getting hotter than normal because the guage is dead. Its possible i could have put in a bad alternator but the battery voltage is fine while running.

thanks in advance

Re: One more question-temp guage

I dont know if this helps...but maybe.
I would check the plug on your temp sensor which is up front near the thermostate is located...and could have got disconnected from the sensor when you changed the alternator...but then again you would get a message from your computer console that you have a bad sensor...anyway just a thought.

Re: One more question-temp guage

yes it would be the "display console" that shows the outline perimeters of your jeep, just above your ashtray in lower center of dash.
They are all the same from 93 to 98.This is where your messages come up.... Like it tells you when a door is even open .I always look at it when im hauling family to make sure all the doors are closed properly.Last month i was shocked because it even told me i had one of my rear lamps out...it turned out to be one of the rear brake bulbs in the rear tail gate. The reason i know about the coolent sensor is because mine is bad...and i get the message constantly that my sensor is bad.I paid $15.00 for the part...but never put it in yet.

Re: One more question-temp guage

hey thanks again rleman43

i did some checking and apparently the Vehicle Info Console was an available option that i dont have. I just have the basic transfer case one with the outline of the vehicle in the middle and to the left it tells me if im in 4LO or whatever. to the right ive never seen any kind of msg at all.

anyway im gonna go pick up a sender unit and ill let you know what i find out.

cheers

Re: One more question-temp guage

ok...well earlier i took my wife to the grocery and notice that my speedometer isnt working right..i was doing at least 35 and it was saying 10 mph.I showed it to my wife and she started complaining of me driving to slow...so i sped the car up a little and it rapidly jumped from 10 to 60 in less than blink of the eye on the odometer. Now i know i wasnt doing 60 either...hehe
We need help ...huh...LOL

Good call, but ask Dale Aeppli, and see what he thinks it could be.
