sweet car... Well the engine it's self it probably the same. It's probably the same thing as between the vette and the camaro. induction and exhaust. Just an opinion though.

Re: dif between impala lt1 and camaro lt1?

Impala, Caprice and Roadmaster all have iron heads. Camaro and Corvette have aluminum heads. The engine driven accessories are in different places. Caprice and Roadmaster do not have a remote oil cooler (not sure about impala). The exhaust manifolds are different because the Caprice, Impala, and roadmaster engines have the A.I.R tubes in different places. They all take the same wiring harness.

Ok, so I have to ask, are the rating on those other LT1's [265] accurate, or did they just underrate them as usual to keep them away from the Camaro and even farther from the Vette?

Re: Re: dif between impala lt1 and camaro lt1?

The HP numbers are probably underrated on the B-body cars.

The Impala, Roadmaster, and Caprice are really big cars so you do need quite a bit of power to get them going. Also the axel ratio's on the B-body cars are so high. The roadmaster I got my LT1 out of for my conversion had a 2.56 ratio rear end.

I wonder how much the heads differ? Do they have the same intake and exhaust valve sizes, or are they the same?

Re: dif between impala lt1 and camaro lt1?

2.56s gears, UG, that sux, and doesn't a big car like that need more torque from better gearing to move it's fat ass. Damn, if I had on, I'd drop 3.42s in there, whoa, I'd be smokin. And so they LT1 rated at 265 is really the same one from the Camaro rated at 285.

no its not... it has iron heads... and maybe some other shit im missing... go ahead put 3.42s on that heavy ass shit, u'll get 0-60 in 7 sec instead of 9 and top out at 80... even if u put the same lt1 thats in a camaro into an impala it wouldnt be as fast... cuz of aerodynamics and weight.

Re: dif between impala lt1 and camaro lt1?

Oh, I forgot about the different heads, my bad. But so the LT1 in the Camaro is the exact same one as in the Vette then, no difference, yet they underrate it, right?
I've seen those Impala SS LT1's they're pretty F*ckin mean, got smoke in my '96 RS by one several runs.

Re: dif between impala lt1 and camaro lt1?

The new Impala's come standard with the 3.4L V6. The 3.8L is optional. Now I think the newer SS models that are coming out (or are out already) will have a supercharged 3.8L.

Do you mean engine?

The Impala has Iron heads, and the Camaro had Aluminum

You lost me when you said "motor" motors are electrical.
