program keyless remote

Hello,

I just got a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager that was missing the keyless remotes. I got a new OEM one today off of the internet and I need instructions on how to program it. The owners manual says I need a working one to program the new one. Thats a problem.

Thanks

I see this question asked a lot, but nobody ever replys with an answer. Is this question taboo?

To tell you the truth, I don't even know if this van has keyless entry, but I am assuming it does since most all vehicles since the mid 90's have come with it as a standard option. How can you check to see if it does have it?

Someone please tell me if I can program the keyless fob or do I need to take it to a dealer.

thanks,

The info about programing your own remotes if you have a working remote is on page 16 of my 1999 voyager manual. I went to my local dodge dealer in wilmington, NC a few weeks ago and they programmed the remote. They didn't do it for free though, they charged me 55.00.

To program Transmitters:

1. Turn ignition switch to the ON position and leave vehicle in park.
2. Using a previously programmed transmitter, press the UNLOCK button for 5 to 10 seconds. While the UNLOCK button is being pressed, press the PANIC button and release both buttons simultaneously. You will hear a chime sound to signal you that programming on the new transmitter(s) may occur.
3. You may program up to 4 transmitters for your vehicle within a 30 second timed window. Press and release both lock and unlock buttons of a transmitter at the same time;then press any of the buttons once, you will hear a beep when the transmitter has been successfully programmed. A chime will sound when the 30 seconds is over, or if you turn the ignition switch off.

If you do not have a programmed transmitter, contact your dealer for details.

*********
I had to contact the dealer and pay them. If you have a working programmed transmitter you should be OK.

Has this procedure worked for anyone? I have a 94 Caravan and it doesn't have the panic button mentioned in the instructions. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

The info I posted is a copy out of a 1999 plymouth voyager owners manual. I don't know if it is the same for a 94. do a google or buy a manual off of ebay. i bought my 99 manual off of ebay for just a few bucks. the procedure listed only works if you already have a working remote and you are just adding another one. since I didn't have a working one, I had to get the dealer to program it.

Re: program keyless remote

My '94 Caravan still had the book when I got it. No mention in the owners manual how to program the remotes. Other than telling you how to use them, the only related detail in the book is that the horn chirp can be turned off by dealer programming. So, probably need to go to the dealer unless someone else has access to the Mopar service books.

I've been in the same boat befor with a '94 and a '96 Caravan. Hopefully this information will help you. You can disregard the detailed descriptions of the remote transmitters that this bulletin refers to and skip down to the actual instructions at the bottom. The procedure involving grounding the green wire worked well in my '96

A Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Programming Procedures Card (Publication No. 81-170-00011) is being provided with this Technical Service Bulletin to simplify RKE transmitter programming on 1999 - 2002 North American vehicles. Additional copies of the RKE publication, 81-170-00011 (Fig. 1), can be ordered from DDS Distribution Services, LTD. Their number is 1-300-890-4038.

NOTE: THE RECENTLY RELEASED MILLER SPECIAL TOOL, "RF DETECTOR NO. 9001", SHOULD BE USED TO DETERMINE IF THE TRANSMITTER IS WORKING BEFORE BEGINNING PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. THE RF DETECTOR INDICATES IF THE TRANSMITTER IS WORKING, NOT IF IT IS PROGRAMMED TO A VEHICLE.

Thanks!

Your '94 remote has a dedicated "rear door unlock" button. The rear door open button (black) on your '94 remote became the "red" panic button on '95 and later cars. The 'unlock" button now opens all doors including the rear door. The transmitter is the same, other than the red button. You can use an earlier "black" transmiter on newer cars. By simply programming them to the car. The only problem is that anytime you try to "open" the rear door, the alarm goes on.

Re: program keyless remote

I don't even know why they have the site, nobody seems to ever write back, maybe because they'll all stupid and don't know anything.

I have a 1996 Caravan and had to get the first one done at the dealer, at no charge, lucky. They have to hook up the hand held computer to set the remote. After you have the first one, you can do the rest on your own. Good luck.
