Engine skips at high rpm

I have a 1990 lumina, great turn key car, no starting problems... revs fine, however when it reaches 4000 rpm, it stays there and just keeps skipping. It will go no higher than 4000 rpm. Anyone have a clue on what the problem is? thanks.

Re: Engine skips at high rpm

The PCM- powertrain control module will disable one or more fuel injectors when an overspeed is detected and set a code P1270= overspeed in the OBDI module
An overspeed may occur from wheel slippage from icy roads or someone free revving the engine. Have Autozone pull the codes and go from there.
You may have a fuel delivery problem.
