Which tranny GTUs or TII

I have an 89 GTUs with a JDM turbo motor. My tranny grinds just a little into second and I dont like the clutch the previous owner put in and the input shaft makes a lot of noise. I have two choices. I can A: Rebuild my GTUs tranny and cryo treat the internals to handle the higher horsepower (and it will get more powerfull with time). Or buy a JDM TII tranny w/ low miles from a dude in FL for $350 (35k miles or less). I like the short ratios in the GTUs tranny but i dont know how well it will handle higher horsepower even with cryo treatment. One problem is I dont know how much the cryo treatment costs but i can get the rebuild cheap because my brother can do it for me. thanks ahead of time.

Re: Which tranny GTUs or TII

the GTUs tranny is a turbo II transmission. The only difference between the turbo II powertain and the GTUs's is the n/a engine instead of the turbo engine. Rebuild your transmission it's probably just over due.

Im pretty sure thats wrong. The GTUs is a special tranny with short ratios made for the track. Go to the 2nd Gen specs here http://pages.infinit.net/ebedard/Frame.htm to see the different ratios... i belive its a combo of a NA tranny and turbo II tranny but for the most part is the NA tranny... which means less strength. Im also going to go verify this because Turbo II trannys have 2 drain plugs and 2 fill plugs and the NAs have just one of each (might be the other way around but my haynes manual has it in there).

Check the partstrader. http://www.thepartstrader.com/adlayo...2&Display=Full

There is a guy selling TII trannys for $185. You will need a new clutch and flywheel, I'd get it from srmotorsports.com. You'll also need a new driveshaft. But definaly get the TII tranny.

nope... have lots of spare parts though... need to go through it all and find out all what i have... Heres the story though... The guy i bought this car from bought it with the origional motor blow... he replaced it with a S4 NA (big mistake)... He blew that up because A: he ran the S5 computer and was reving it to 8k and B: missed a downshift and hit 12k rpm BOOM bye bye S4. Then he put in the JDM turbo which is what is currently in there (he himself didnt put it in... he had someone put it in) And so i have many spare parts from S4 NAs S5 NAs and a little turbo stuff. I really didnt care.. it was a GTUs... I had to have it... well not to mention i havent anoucend in a thread i bought it yet... havent had time to take pictures... ive got time now... so im gona do it.
