Angry Blown head gasket

The repair shop told me I have a blown head gasket which causes slow oil leak.

I never have overheat problem. the coolant is not milky.
There is no other sign except for the very-slow-oil-leak.

But the repair is between $750 - $1000.

Is there a dheaper way to fix the oil leak?
Can the 'stop oil leak' fluid solve the problem?

I'm sure they told you the head gasket was blown, becuase it probably is.

You could see milky oil, oiley antifreeze, or a leak on the side of the block where the head bolts up.

As far as additives; I wouldn't suggest it. The head gasket is under alot of pressure, and will eventually blow out completely. I had it happen to me in my 95 on the freeway, in the middle of nowhere. I wasn't as fortunate with seeing an oil leak prior to it happening.

The price the shop quoted you sounds about right. I did mine myself, and it took more than a few hours. If you have the knowledge and a factory service manual, go for it. It will save you lots!!! You can pick up the head gasket from checker/kragen pretty cheap (less than a hundred dollars). Make sure you also pick up a set of head bolts (you can reuse them, just don't mix up which holes they came out of).

Also, you don't have to overheat to have engine problems. The coolant system will keep the motor relatively cool, however the lack of adequate oil will be detrimental to your engine!

Its better to do this sooner, than later! If you wait too long you might spin the main bearings (which are known to be inadequte for the sr20), which will in turn means that instead of a grand, it'll cost you four!
