Cam Shaft Adjuster
Can anyone give me some advice on this problem? I took my car in for it's 60,000 mile service yesterday. The oil pressure light was on last week and the check engine light came on this week. I was told that the cam shaft adjuster is not adjusting properly and that an oxygen sensor has no activity. Total cost is estimated at $2100.00. OUCH! Is this something that happens regularly? I've heard horror stories about dealers taking advantage of women who don't know a thing about cars. If I do in fact need to have these problems fixed, is it advisable to go to a non-dealer mechanic? I would appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

Re: Cam Shaft Adjuster
It is very possible that the oil pickup screen is clogged ( common on the 1.8 ) What exactly were you told was going to be done?

thanks for responding
They told me they need to replace the cam shaft adjustor and the oxxygen sensor. It has been fixed already, and it turned out it needed a new oil pump, water pump and a couple of other things that I can't remember right now. Hopefully the car will be good for a while or I'm not going to be able to keep up with the expenses. What is your opinion of them?

I see that almost every day the camshaft ajusters do leak after time mostly on the 2.8's some 2.7t and very little on the 1.8's but you are looking at $1600 just in parts canadian & I think it is about 8-10 hours to do not a small job
