Angry Weird access issue

Hi all,

Hopefully someone has done this before. Just checking before I go for it. I got my guibo removed (it came out as a handful of strings and bolt sheaths.) Decided that while I had everything out, I'd change the shift selector linkage and get rid of the slop. Well, due to the wonderful shroud or balancer or whatever the &^*$ it is, I can't reach the c clip or the pin on the top of the tranny. My question is, if I loosen/remove the rear transmission support (with a jack in place obviously) will the tranny drop down without removing anything else? I only need a couple of inches between the underside of the car and the top of the tranny.
Anyone know if this will buy me enough clearance to swap this STUPID selector out?

I've never done a clutch or a tranny, but it seems that this might do the trick. I have had no success in removing the output flange from the transmission as I can't find a socket to fit in this "one horse town".

Any worries, or should I just go for it.

Thanks,

Douglas

Yeah,
I actually read that one. Mine's different. I have now pulled the rear tranny support bracket and dropped the transmission. I can now "reach" the knob, but the shift console is in the way and I have plain fat fingers. It looks like the console is held in at the front by a rubber teat in a hole, and at the rear by 2 impossible to reach nuts which spin the entire bolt when turned. They appear to be held on to the transmission case by 2 allen bolts.

My question is, I guess, can I remove the allen bolts and pull the shift console out? or will that mess things up?

Am I just stupid? I just can't seem to get my hand between the console and the transmission...

Thanks all.
