'97 JGC Stalling at Startup
I have what sounds to be same probelm. Approx. 50% of the time on cold startup, engine does a little surge for fraction of second then immediately dies. Have to restart up to 6-8 times and/or start pumping and then it will then finally start running, but barely with RPMs jumping around in 200-600 RPM range. After pumping to keep it running for approx. 2-3 minutes, it seems to settle into a normal idle of 600-700 RPM. At that point it operates normally including on the road till the next cold start.
I have replaced Idle Air Control Motor and Engine Control Processor with no improvement or changes in symptoms. Any thoughts on what to try next? |

Re: '97 Grand Cherokee stalls at start up
My 96JGC had a similar problem - would start fine, just wouldn't hold idle, and it only happened once in a while. I had the fuel filter changed out and everything has been fine since.

97' Jeep Starting Problem
Just for follow-up on particular problem, after changing the IAC, then the ECU (engine control unit), and then the IAC for the second time, the problem went away. 5-6 weeks of chasing the problem before resolving.
