Cool dodge Ram 1500 5.9l mag. exaust

Hello, i am new here but i thought i would share my finding on my trucks exhaust. I have only had my truck for about 2 months, and my old man has had a 99 turbo diesel for close to five years. he had a 4" exhaust put in last year made a huge diff. he still had his old stock 3" exhaust laying behind the shop, so we started looking and decided it should fit under my 01 1500. Just as we had thought it went right in with minumal effort. We cut the old exhaust about a foot after the cat. and ran it from there. Almost all the hangers lined up. i have not been driving it long enough to really tell if it has made a difference in my gas milage, but it has increased power in my mid to high rpm range.

Well yeah.

You didn't really say anything useful, but that's cool anyways.

I just thought i would put an fyi out to any one who was thinking of a easy way to get an axhaust for very little money. With all those guys out there going to the four or five inch exhaust on there diesels they should be pretty easy to come by.

Oh, I thought the title of the subject was referring to the 360 gas motor.

I see what you mean now. I didn't know it was about a diesel truck. Sounds good.

Re: dodge Ram 1500 5.9l mag. exaust

Am I out on a limb here, or isn't there another thread from Dodgeintheblood about this......

What is "Mid to high rpm range"... do you just redline the ram until it sounds like it's making more horsepower? It'll be making small bearing fragments in the oil pan...

I got it! It's the old "if it sounds good, it's gotta be fast" Hmm... I'm sure I left my 200 horsepower chrome air cleaner and valve covers in high school..

I'm exhausted...

Re: dodge Ram 1500 5.9l mag. exaust

No, this thread is about me stealing a exhaust off of a turbo diesel, and putting on a 360 ram 1500. you can put a STOCK exhaust from the Dodge ram 2500 turbo diesel on a Ram 5.9L 1500 with the Gas. Most of the hangers will line up and it makes for a really easy exhaust system for extreamly cheep.

And mid to high rpm range is anything from 2000 to 4000rpm i am not red lineing it!!! like when you are comeing off the on ramp on to the freeway. is where i feel the most of the power gain. it has also vastly improved the sound of the ram 1500. it still has a muffler so it is not sound like some stupid idiot with a red neck strieght pipe thing going on.

And the other thread is on the matter of removing the cat.

Re: dodge Ram 1500 5.9l mag. exaust

Dodgeintheblood,
Thanks for clearing that up. I know I was just being mean, but there are so many people out here that don't understand the difference between Rice and Steak. So, that's why I thought you were up in the 5K-7K rpm range... no power up there, just a lot of small parts my humble apologies...

meanwhile, the other thread turned into a debate; seems like the old school versus the new improved stainless school... and we all know we can't spend $600 bucks (or more Yikes!) on an exhaust that'll get ripped out from under the truck the next time you really drive it somewhere!

Almost any of the truck exhausts will interchange, except for diameter. But it's cool that you did it. I like the huge tailpipe from the diesel trucks. I hate cheesy whizzer cone exhaust tips for the Ricer's... (ok, I own a camry, but it's a family car.)

have fun!
