Which of these is the best tire?

A buddy of mine can hook me up for $58-$72 a tire.
All are 205/40/17's

Kumho 712
Nankang NS-1 (only one not Z rated)
Nitto Neo Gen
Visa VK-04WGS ZR

Don't get the 712's. They have serious inconsistantcy issues with those tires, and the QC on them. You can end up with a good pair, pr a bad pair, but you never know which you have till you push it, and the grip FAILS on you. Kaneto can good insight to this. Not to mention Kumho has been having some manufacturing issues of recently, but that's really only dealing with their road racing tire line, of where ALL V710 tires were recalled a few weeks ago.

I'd opt for the Nankangs if I were you. The Neo Gens seem like show tires to me (like how the Paradas are), but I'm sure they handle well too...

Re: Which of these is the best tire?

But the Nankangs aren't Z rated. I don't plan on going 150mph or whatever, and I'm assuming these are H rated, which are good up to 140 or so.. Hmmm. If the Nankangs are the $58/per tire I just might get them. Thanks man.

What are you looking for in a tire?

Re: Which of these is the best tire?

Descent for drag, great for handling/autocross.. just a grippy street tire. I had parada spec 2's and they handled great on the street at lower speeds, but anything over 45 and I was sliding like an ice cube in a frying pan. They also gave me too much spin out of the hole..

Don't base tire buying off speed rating. Pirelli P-Zero's have terrible grip compared to other much cheaper and lower speed rated tires. Azenis Sports for example will out grip P-Zeros anyday. Yoko ES100's will our grip P-Zeros in some cases. Speed rating is almost purely for a straight line type deal.

If your car was sliding like it was on ice it's not the tire it could be your alignment.

Re: Which of these is the best tire?

NEO GENS all the way bro !!! they have a great aggressive tread pattern for both street and strip!! if you look at the tire itself it has a great crosschannel for water disposal and a great " head-on " design for hard launches.. they have a good temp and z speed rating and I know a few guys running them that have been getting a real good tread life out of them !! I back the Nitto's up all the way man

Re: Which of these is the best tire?

Well, it's either get those 17x7 tires for $200-$250, or get these 15x7 rims with 205/55ZR15 Kuhmo Excta Supra 712's for $300 from a friend..
