rotary powered mr2

has any one seen such a conversion with a 20b mazda rotary engine? Im curious because there are mid engine trans axle adapters for the 20b rotary engine wouldn't that be a bad ass ride.

now that would make more sence to me than the hemi would! i think the 20b would be a good fit into a MR2, with the size, and the weight of the MR2 would be just about right for it.

I dreamed up that conversion as well a couple years ago. I always thought a mid-engine rotary would be awesome, especially one as small and light as the MKI MR2. But rather than go to the bulky 20B, why not just use the current Renesis 13B? 255 horses would give the MKI roughly a 10:1 power to weight ratio, not including the weight savings over the original iron four-banger. Plus, the factory 20Bs still suffer from all the old rotary's issues, whereas the Renesis is far more civilized. Now, if you wanted to make a new 20B from Renesis parts, that'd be another story...

ok the 13 renesis has 250 hp @8500 rpm but sadly mazda dose not yet own the patent to the 13b jhon dear does and they will not let mazda sell the engine alone so unless one can find a totaled rx8 in the junk yard beat everyone else to it and convince the junkyard guy to let it go for a reasonable price there will not be a 13b powered mr2 any time soon. hit me back if you find anything helpful .

ya good luck with that. id say just go with the 20b. alot better idea than your hemi, and better than what holy said about john deere. good luck that sounds like a really great idea, the 20b of course :thumb:

i don't know that either would fit... and if they did, you have the problem of everything being backwards (as far as engine setup goes...) i'm sure there's a thread about this somewhere in this board already

thats where the (transaxle) comes into play ac427cpe. a friend of mine has a bradley gt (an old mid engine wv kit car that eventually when into production very few made looks kina like a farrari) that he's putting a 12a mated to a porche 911 tranny the only fabrication he had to do was "S" bend the shifter rod to fit in the shifter mount. but i would like to hear more about that thread you mentioned perhaps things are a little different with the 20b please let me know.

well, i suppose anything is possible... and yes i know what a transaxle is. however, unless you know a good machinist... good luck. the bradley gt thing would work, the porsche transaxle is similar to the VW one... and you can hang the engine out the back. this conversion has been done in sand buggies and such. the mr2's engine faces transversley, and with a transverse engine and teh fact that the rotary engine sets lower than a piston engine (crankshaft in center) may create some problems.

here's the link. i'm not against you trying, i think it would be amazing to see a car set up like this... it's just that if you aren't prepared to spend a lot of money, and if you don't have a lot of knowledge about both cars... it'll be really really tough.
