Anyone a Studebaker owner?
My dad has a 1938 Commander, straight 6.

Re: Anyone a Studebaker owner?
What's it like to get parts?
I would love to have a Stude, although an Avanti would be my first choice. A friend of mine has a '60 Hawk. Really nice car. |

If I'm not mistaken, I believe there's a company that has a catalog for Studebaker parts. I can't remember the name of the company. I think they do business out of California.
What's harder to come by, the Avanti or the Avanti II? |

Re: Anyone a Studebaker owner?
I have a '62 Lark four door sedan with 160hp six cylinder. I bought it about 5 years ago for $600. It is a complete car that sat in a cow pasture for over 10 years. I drug it home on rotton tires with the tubes exposed, pushed it off the car dolly and it went careening down the driveway out of control and hit a retaining wall at about 15mph, it broke the retaining wall and put a 1 inch scratch in the quarter panel, tough car! I gave it a tuneup and a break job and was able to drive it for about 2 months before the clutch and radiator gave out.
As for parts, many are still available depending on year and model from older parts stores such as NAPA and O'Reilly. There is also a company in South Bend, IN or there abouts that has an abundance of parts, actually I read where they destroyed a lot of their stock when they moved their warehouse which allowed them to raise their prices. They have most of the parts stock from the original factory in South Bend. It used to be called Newman & Altman Inc. but I think they have a new name now. |
