Profec B vs Profec B Spec II

Is the spec II worth the extra cash or should one just go with the first model? Or should i just go get some EBC with an LCD monitor? Sure the money could be used elsewhere.

What are your goals?

Instead of starting a bazillion threads, identify what you want to get out of the car, your budget, and we'll go from there.

Re: Profec B vs Profec B Spec II

My goal is to have a reliable race car, that won't punk out when i need it the most. Money is tight, but i dont want to say "what if i had just paid a little more for 'this.'" I am just trying to work from the bottom to the top and figure out my next buy. I have the boost gauge bought and intake pipe, now i will probably need the BC and i am just figuring out will I ask that question if i get a MBC instead of going with an EBC, and with the EBC do i just raise the dime a little to get something that pays for itself in the end? or does it?

sorry about all the threads, i guess if ya see my post don't bother with it if ya tired of me asking a bazillion questions. Just that i have to get as much done before the summer because once it hits i won't be around to do anything. Also postin the threads is the only way i learn and figure out if its what i want.

Re: Profec B vs Profec B Spec II

Well, now that we have a clear goal, an EBC is "bling" at this point in your modding, but if you feel the need; go for it.

Check out www.dsmtuners.com and the tuning guide there for an upgrade path. There is also LOTS of archived info on topics that are discussed regularly.

Re: Profec B vs Profec B Spec II

there are multiple upgrade paths like that one. dsmparts.com, dsmtuners.com you name it. all are good. follow those for good steps and ideas on what to upgrade when and what average cost and benefit is. as far as the BC goes, if cash is tight, then def go with an mbc. there are guys that run 9's that have MBC's. but for convenience and some looks, go with the EBC. it's all up to you and your budget. you'll be more than doubleing theprice of your BC by going with an electronic. but ones like the profec B have many added features that are helpful and they just look so damn good haha. it's all up to you and your cashflow. save all summer while you can't do anything. and then you'll be able to afford plenty of stuff.

also, you're right. the APFT is a joke haha. I was runnin my 2 mile in 11:50... when my knee was in one piece! now.. well.. who knows.

I have the Profec II, I have no experience with the previous profec b
but its prolly the betta bang for the buck.
If you can one for 200ish or betta, go for it.

besides not have the real time boost gauge and warnings, its basically the same

Re: Profec B vs Profec B Spec II

How much would the the Profec B go for? I can't seem to find any and when i do i would like to know how much they are actually worth. Also if i just get the Solenoid w/o hoses, clamps etc, how much are the hoses and stuff...figuring not much but i dunno.

Re: Profec B vs Profec B Spec II

i would think that the spec II is an updated idea of the original version. i love the ease of use and the display that has the peakhold function.

Re: Re: Profec B vs Profec B Spec II

spec II all the way. there is a built in boost gauge that reads in kPa or psi. my gauge is in kPa and my spec II is in psi. kinda cool. it also has a peak hold so you can see how much boost exactly you are running and adjust accordingly. also is a warning level and an adjustable boost cut if you go over it. oh and it's really easy to tune too.

I was looking at the exact same thing you were. What profec to get. I looked on a bunch of forums and found that alot of people really didnt like the spec II or had problems with it. I choked it up to being a new product, but I didnt want to mess with it so I went with the spec I. I love it. It is so simple to adjust and learn to use.

Re: Profec B vs Profec B Spec II

the only thing that does happen with mine is i have to cycle the hi/low setting when i start it up. if i don't i will get a warning above 13psi and it flashes red and beeps. a quick cycle and it stops. it never hits the cut, just flashes and beeps. not really a problem, i figure it is a safety feature to pay attention to the current setting. or there could be something really wrong and it's telling me i'm about to blow up...
