you mean built, like performance parts already added?

i know dart, and a few other companies make pre-assembled ones, but they are damn near 5-6000 for the motor.

Re: Re: Built Engine Buyers

Doesn't matter what kind of a motor you're building, Benson is the best. They are about the only company that hasn't got many complaints about sunk sleeves, loose tolerances, etc. I've heard lots of horror stories from other companies.

No, it really doesn't. They are the best at installing sleeves, they only use the best parts, they're all hand assembled by Dan @ Benson and Earl @ Laskey, and the clearances are all spot on. Doesn't matter if it's an 81MM 9:1 turbo motor, or an 86MM 14:1 nitrous monster, the basic process is the same.

Yeh, we all know that Mugen and Spoon motors suck.

You mean spoon's STOCK honda longblocks that have been balanced with a new timing belt, and thinner headgasket? Or Mugen's 800 dollar headgasket and racing oil filler cap?

Spoon doesn't build any kind of serious racing engines that they sell to the public, and neither does mugen. 85% of their stuff is overpriced garbage that people buy because it says spoon and mugen on it.

Oh yeah, how could I leave out mugen's 2000 dollar radiators, 600 dollar cold air intakes, 1300 dollar catbacks, or 600 dollar seat rails. I'm also going to jump all over a 120 dollar spoon air filter, 150 dollar headgasket, a 500 dollar VTEC controller, or maybe a 100 dollar windsheild banner.

Re: Built Engine Buyers

is it better to go with a built engine designed for racing (balanced, blueprinted, ported, polished, etc.) or a used stock motor for a daily driven car?

Re: Built Engine Buyers

go with a JDM SI stock engine and build your own... it's the only way to know it was done right.... or for you to think it was done right... take on a project you'll learn a lot more from doing it rather than just buying it from somewhere......

Call up Earl @ Laskey racing. 949-400-0334. You can get your block sleeved at Benson through him, 950 plus 50 shipping. If you want a built motor the rotating assembly is put together and installed by Earl.

Is that including his purchase of parts, or me sending him the actual parts?
