I have 2 1/2" piping with a Flowmaster 40 series muffler on it. It sounds really nice. Very deep at low rpms. Not ricey at all. The only problem with mine is that it rattles at 2000 rpms and then it goes away. I think it's just backpressure though. I'm not sure about how much power you will be getting, probably not much but you should get some gains. I'm satisfied with my Budget Y-pipe, custom catback, Flowmaster muffler combination.

Oh, Yeah I don't have a resonator on my Cat-back. If you don't want as much sound I'de suggest a resonator but, it's all about your preference.

If you have a Y-pipe and don't have a resonator on there, it will be loud as shit and will proabably drone quite a bit on the freeway. I would say leave the resonator if you have a Y-pipe, take it off if you don't.

Re: Cat back exhaust-with flowmaster muffler?

i had a stillen cat-back with budget y pipe. stillen's don't have resonators on them. it sounded nice and grumbly til like 3K rpm then it was obnoxious raspy and backfired with almost every shift with the y pipe. if you were to bring the car up to around 5K rpm and let off the gas it let out a big POP! followed by a bunch of little pops. the cool parts was that i used to get a little orange flame out of my muffler. that's what my friends told me, i never saw first hand.
before the y pipe though, the stillen cat-back sounded sweet.

i'm with thrasher. leave the resonator w/ the y pipe. otherwise get rid of it.

Re: Cat back exhaust-with flowmaster muffler?

i guess. the y pipe will get you 3x as much power alone though. i'd go that route.

Re: Cat back exhaust-with flowmaster muffler?

that's how i went about it. intake, then catback, then y pipe. you'll get 4-5 hp from a catback but you'l get 15-19 hp with the y pipe. and that's at the wheels.

good luck with all of it.
