dash question

hey all, lookin to put a new dash in the camaro, and found a guy down the street who has one in great shape that hes willing to sell me for 50 bones, but it looks different, its a firebird dash, im pretty sure from eyeballing it that it will fit, the mounting holes look like they are in the same place, however the speaker grills and defroster vents look like they are different. has anyone here tried to put the firechicken dash in a camaro???? do the vents and speaker grills line up?

Re: dash question

yes they are the trans am dashpad is smaller
the one in my trans am was cracked, i have one
that is in excellent shape for a z28 and i tried putting it in and it comes out about 3 or 4 inches
out over the instrament panel. the fire bird one isnt
as wide as the camaro one.

dash panel

better be prepared to hack up the wiring harness!!!!
i have a digital dash for a 89 trans am gta. i tried the same
thing it was a very costly mistake, i cut up my wiring harness
and in the end when i hooked it all up nothing worked.
the wiring is way different.

Its came out of an 88 Firebird LO3. And a digital dash is different than non digital dash. Also I believe 90 and up had an electronic dash setup requiring a speed buffer (I have this harness in my garage too) So I should be alright.

Yep Firebird dash into a camaro... I feel like being different and I had the 82-89 Camaro dash... its ugly to say the least... Its defintely stuck in the 80's The firebird one is a bit better and with white face guages looks many times better.

yup 90 and up had a VSS in the tranny instead of cable. i had a 90RS and my friend was gonna use the guages in his 88RS but the 88 had a cable. do you just have the harness for under the dash or do ya have the engine harness too? cause the VSS connector is wraped in engine harness

I have the complete interior dash wiring plus the fuse box. But I have the non electronic dash setup in the 89 (stock)

So the swap should be straight forward 88 firebird dash into 89 Camaro. Both are mechanical setups. Might have to move connectors that should be it. As far as the engine harness well not sure we are going to be doing the dash at the same time as the 350. Replacing all speedo cables and such. Just because of mileage and age.
