Broken Electric Window Switch

Hi!

Anyone out there know how to bypass the window switch
for a power window? Rolled my driver's side window down
the other day and the switch snapped.

Three junkyards (well, five) don't have the part,
so I need to get the window up right quick.

Help would be much appreciated!

Is the switch broken in such a way that the toggle part of the switch is broken and if you were to replace it then it would worK? If it is such that something in the switch is broken so that toggling the switch back and forth will not produce any results then you have to replace the switch. You could try to pull it up by hand but you could break something else. If you are adventurous you could take the inside panel off the door and short the switch using a jumper cable. You would need to take a multimeter to figure out which is the power and which is the ground.
You sound like you want a quick fix and the only thing I could think of is to apply power to the proper wire on the switch to move the motor up. I am sorry but I don't think I am much of a help.
How new is the car? Have you tried a dealer?

Car is a 93 Escort Wagon.

Took the panel mostly off of the door but didn't
see or feel a motor that could be driving the
window.

You're right, testing each wire would be
a project.

A neighbor just suggested trying to pull the
window up. Maybe I will try that more tomorrow.
Current goal is just to get the window up.

I wouldn't try just pulling up on an electrically operated window...good luck.....I'd just hotwire it. Take the wires that go into your switch, and cross 'em, if theres three, study the switch and make sure you dont cross the ones that make it go down.

The motor will be on the inside between the two sheets of metal that make up your door. Usually the switch is attached to the inside of your door panel. Once you get the door panel off you should be able to take a few screws out of the switch to take the switch off and it is a matter of using a conductive wire to short two of the wires together. Sometimes you will have to ground on of the wires and apply power (12V) to the other wire. If you have a haynes manual you may be able to look at it more clearly. You may ask at a garage if they can help you. Simply have the inside of the door (panel) off for them. Good luck!!!
