liquid glass ultimate auto polish

has anybody used liquid glass ultimate polish? i used it for years. it's easy to apply, & remove & really puts on a durable finish. you typically have to re-apply it between 6-12 months. i just tried that 5 star shine that's supposed to last 5 years. i was wondering if anybody compared the two. the liquid glass is much cheaper & i think it is a really excellent, durable polish, but i never seen anything last as long as 5 star claims too. the 5 star puts on a really nice finish like the liquid glass, but i want to know which one lasts longer. i guess only time will tell, so stay tuned....

Re: liquid glass ultimate auto polish

I have used Liquid Glass for probably 20 years. It is great. I love it and your right..it is very easy to put on and take off. Esp after the first time applied.
I have no idea about the 5 star. In fact, I have never heard of it.

5 star - does not last that long ( no I havent used it but I know 2 people who have ) and you only get like 5oz of product for too much money. there is much better out there. liquid glass is ok, been around a long time, but I think 4 star (formerly platinum and not related to 5 star) and a few others are even better for your money whech out www.detailcity.com or www.premiumautocare.com or www.autogeek.net

***5-STAR SHINE--UPDATE*** as i stated in a previous post here, i applied 5-star to my car a week & a half ago. after a week of heavy rain & i washed the car yesterday, the once slick finish & water beading is diminshed. also, under the rocker panels behind the wheels & the lower fenders there is no beading at all now. it's completely washed off in those areas. i'm not saying 5-star is a bad product, just that it's not anything special--it's just like any other paint sealant that needs to be re-applied often--even more so after bad weather, i'm saying that their claims are false. buyer beware! i buy liquid glass in a 16 oz can for $17.99 & for $69.00 you get 2 oz of 5-star shine! what's the better deal? i owned many cars which i always took care of. i tried many waxes/polishes over the years. i still yet have to find something that stands up more than a few months at best to cleveland ohio winters, hot summers, heavy rain, ect. there were times when i actually bought several polishes/waxes & waxed certain parts of the car with them & logged the info on paper & it makes me laugh how none of them live up to their "guaranteed" results. everyone makes outragious claims about their products. i just picked up a can of turtle wax "super hard shell" wax in a store that says that one application lasts a year, when actually it washes off after a few washes! i didn't buy it! at least liquid glass is honest--it says on their can that it has to be re-applied periodically! i'm not here to bash any product (not my style)--i'm just laying out facts as i see them from actual use....... p.s., i'm embarrased to even have fallen for their slick advertising/claims. i know better than that! i polished cars for 25 years! i know what works & what does not. there is many products out there with fancy/scientific names, misleading claims, & terminology, but the way i see it, you have 2 choices--natural waxes, or chemical based paint sealants.

Re: liquid glass ultimate auto polish

thank you for the update!!! Thats what I was told also, and that it can be difficult to apply. You may want to give the 4 star a try, it doesnt give any wild claims either but IMHO I think it performs better than liquid glass / you can see that it gets really good reviews at www.autopia.org and www.detailcity.com both of these site are really good for getting info on products and procedures and they are really unbiased

yeah--i forgot to mention that. it tends to streak. liquid glass dries & wipes off really easy. i never heard of 4 star, maybe i''ll try it some day. the moral of the story is that no matter what polish/wax you use, even the cheapest one out there if it's applied on a regular basis, it will protect & preserve your paint. i polish my car on a average of every 2-3 months. i would hate to see what my car would look like if i didn't polish it for 5 years like 5-star says! a regular polishing keeps the paint clean & debris free. in the winter i do it once a month as the road salt is hard on any polish. i'm lucky to work in a big heated warehouse, & in the winter, i polish my car there like it's summer! that's when it's the most important to keep a coat of polish on the car.....

Re: liquid glass ultimate auto polish

Coat of polish? LMAO Polish DOES NOT protect the paint! Polish is an chemical that is meant for producing a shine. It does this by removing the top layer of paint. Frequent polishing does more damage than good, I recommend 1-2 times a year. That's with a high-speed buffer, polishing by hand has very little effect unless LONG LONG hrs are spent on something such a Concours show car.

Wax on the other hand protects the paint while providing very little shine - same for sealant.

There are many polish/wax 1-step products that have 50% of the effect a 1-4 step process would have.

sorry about the confusion, but, that's what i meant--i apply sealant to it often. i don't "polish" my car to bring out the shine. i guess the term "polish" is often mis-used. i never had to polish any of my cars now & in the past because i always kept them clean & waxed/sealed.....

Re: liquid glass ultimate auto polish

For best results 1-2 times a year
1. wash/dry
2. clay bar
3. mild polish
4. glaze
5. sealant and/or wax

Mothly
1. Wash/dry
2. wax

I use sealant on my paint & after every wash(weekly) I reapply sealant in a spray form. I can provide a link for sealant & spray if you want.

Poly spray - http://www.topoftheline.com/tolae/32ozwipdowsp.html

Paint sealant - http://www.topoftheline.com/tolae/16ozmaxpains.html

Black paint - http://www.topoftheline.com/tolae/32ozmidswirr.html

If you don't have an orbital buffer you should get one. Time will be saved along with better results. High-speed rotary buffer is the ultimate but in the wrong hands it will do more damage than good. Microfiber towels for removing polish, glaze, wax, sealant only.
