shifting problems

99 S10 4X4 6 cyl, 5-speed manual tranny.
I'm having difficulty shifting, it's especially difficult to shift out of first into second it wants to grind (not really grind but just hit hard) third is easier, forth and fifth are just fine. Most of the time it gets better as the truck warms up but here recently its been difficult even then. The most recent problem has been that its hard to get it into first at a stop sometimes I have to let out on the clutch a bit then depress and push it into first. Does this sound like a clutch, syncronizer or fluid problem to anyone? I haven't checked the tranny oil level because as you know theres no good way to do that. Thanks a bunch.

Re: shifting problems

check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder first, then try bleeding the slave cylinder
