resetting caliper piston
Hello, i'm new the forums, but i've used other ones so.. anyways i'm replacing my brake pads and rotors on my 91 cutlass supreme, I took off the rotor and brake pads and was trying to get the piston caliper back in so i can put the brake pads on and new rotor, i tried using a home made tool to screw inward with alot of hand force, it was sat there and spun. I've heard of using a c clamp and going to push it in? Is this a good idea or not?? Please Tell me, I need HELP!!

I had to do this on my 88 cutlass ciera. Unfortunatly, I couldnt do it. the piston on the one brake was stuck closing the capiler, so it had brake drag. I took it to my mechanic and he jsut replaced the brakes. (Still under warrenty, so got all them done for nothing). anyways, take it to your mechanic and watch what they do.

I had problems with my calipers.
I was part of a class action suit against GM. The rears would jam and no amount of force or special tool would reset them. The new replacements are fine and a 6-inch C-Clamp works on the front and back. No Special tool needed but AutoZone does have a Loan-a-tool if you feel as though you need it. |

Re: resetting caliper piston
on the front you just need a need c clamp and that is it.. on the back the back you need a specail tool that fits on the the end of a 3/8 drive ratchet autozone has them for about 10 dollars its scwers the piston in it don't push in like the front ones do it me a little while at first but i know now what to do.....also make you lossen the bleeder valves if you have ABS the valves iside are one way and you could mess up the ABS if you don't...
