Tire Size 2003 Z71

As stated in the Subject line I have 2003 Z71 Tahoe. The stock tires are 265/70R17. I would like to change to 285/75R17. I want increased clearance for off-road. I also want to keep the stock wheels. Will this new size fit? Can I go bigger? I would really like 315/70R17 but know there no way they will fit without a lift kit and wider wheels, which I don't want to do. Any comments or suggestions? Thanks

Any additional ground clearance you might gain from going up an inch or two in tire diameter would be offset by the fact that you would have excessive tire rub/binding under moderate suspension travel (i.e. when you're driving off road).
