1995 Cherokee cuts out on idle

I have a 1995 Cherrokee (auto 4.0) since new. It has been a great vehicle......until recently. Having travelled 140,000KM and with regular services it now cuts out when stepping off the accelerator, 95% of times when slowing to a stop and sometimes under light acceleration. I first thought it may have been electrical....auto elec could not find problem and suggested replacing engine management system. Then tried running fuel to empty and filling with high octane fuel and fuel conditioner/injector cleaner. The problem seems to be less frequent if the tank is kept full. Sometimes I can go a week without a problem and other days it can stop a dozen times on the way to work. Usually starts again immediately (slip in into neutral and restart on the go) but on sereral occassions has only started after a few minutes rest.

So far mechanics have been guessing solutions ranging from cheap to ridiculous. Can anyone advise?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

HI, THERE IS A SLOT IN THE BACK OF THROTTLEBODY IT IS THE AIC VALVE THIS CONTROLS THE IDLE SYSTEM.GET A CON OF SPRAY THROTTLEBODY CLEANER & START JEEP HOLD ON HIGH IDLE & SPRAY THE SLOT THOURGHLY. YOU CAN ALSO REMOVE IT & CLEAN, ITS HELD IN WITH 2 TORX SCREWS REMOVE CAREFULLY, USUALLY CLEANING WHILE ITS RUNNING DOES IT ALSO SPRAY IN THE THROTTLE BODY & AROUND THE BORE & THE BUTTERFLY & SHAFT CLEAN THROUGHLY THE MORE YOU CLEAN THE BETTER . DON'T SPRAY ON THE SENSORS OR PLASTIC WIRE CONNECTORS FOR SENSOR DALE [email protected]
