Question Fog Light Install Instructions?

I have a 2004 silverado, but it didnt come with the fog lights. Have any of you done the factory install yourself? and could i get a copy of the instructions? was it difficult? was your truck pre-wired for them? I doubt that mine is, I didnt see them. Thanks

Re: Fog Light Install Instructions?

Try http://www.gmdieseltech.com/store2/c...DieselTech.com. Eric (GMDieselTech) sells a kit and if you send him an email I'm sure he can explain what’s involved with the install.

I got the paper instructions from a friend of mine a year ago or so, I'll see if I can dig them up. Otherwise, I can just tell you what I remember of them.

Hello, New to the forum. 2000 Silverado 5.3 LS Ext 2WD. Been a great truck.

I installed factory fog lights and found it to be surprisingly easy.
Nothing too scary and I'm an idiot when it comes to wrenching on cars.
The instructions that come with the kit are easy to follow.

NOTE: Chevy and GM use different mounting brackets. They are not interchangeable.

The 1st thing I did was replace the switch in the dash with the supplied one in the kit. The instructions showed removal of the whole bracket that holds the switch but I believe the switch just comes out from the bracket after depressing some tabs. I might have had to remove the dash cover which just pulls off. Make sure you don't lose any of the rubber grommets on the cover. Could cause squeaks later if they are missing.

I had to remove the left frame brace over the fuse box to be able to remove the box and panel to install the wire connectors on the bottom side. The instructions show where to insert the connectors and fuse. Just pay close attention to the layout of the fusebox and compare it with the diagram on the instructions.

I then routed the cable next to all of the other cables that lead down into the front of the engine to keep things tidy. Took a little manipulation of the cables and fuse box to do it but once done was very clean looking. There are some unused cable guides that are already installed behind the bumper near the middle. Just feel around for them. Should be there. I looked at my neighbor's Tahoe that already had the foglights installed for guidance of the cable routing. VERY HELPFULL. I also used some UV stable zip ties for the looser sections. A ground wire was just long enough for me to use an available hole in the bumper w/o drilling any holes. I don't like drilling holes. Exposes bare metal.

You have to cut out the holes in the plastic bumper, of course. I pretty much cut out the whole flat portion in each panel but you can start small and whittle it for a tighter fit.

The holes for the mounting brackets should be already on the bumper or frame. You have to get under the front end of the truck but it's a good place to hang out and take a nap for a few minutes.

That's about it on the installation if memory serves. Just make sure the bolts are tight, the cable is secure and won't rattle or come loose. Retighten the frame brace.

The last thing you have to do is then take it to the dealer so he can reprogram the computer. They won't work w/o this step (at least for my truck). The charge for that was different every time I asked: from free to $120. I think I negotiated to around $60. Weird.
