temp gauge/ probe

i am getting tired of this car.. its a 350 iroc tpi i fix one thing and two more break... i replaced my radiator and now my car doesnt over heat anymore woo hoo... but today when i was coming back from the store i glanced at my engine water temp and it was steady at 100 which is bs cause i just went 10 miles... once it cooled down i took it for a test run around the block the engine heated up and the fans turned on but the gauge stayed right at 100 im not sure if the gauge is bad or if its the probe... any ideas how i can find out?

uhhm, if it's the actuall temp guage probe in the driver's side head then no, it wont keep the fans from coming on. or atleast it shouldn't. there's 3 probes in ur engine, water temp sender for the ECM, water temp sender for the gauge, and water temp sender for the fans.

Its you'r Temp sending Unit.. its located on the drivers side inbetween the 1 and 3 cylnder ..(1st and 2nd looking at the hood) you will have to either check the wiring... or replace the sending unit... please, please if you have to replace the temp sensor, wait till your car has cooled down, water will come out of that hole its in.. but rather it be cool than 200F
actually you can see it on 4onFloor's engine pic.. its that little brass thing inbetween the 1st exuast manifold and hte 2nd spark plug wire..
On my iroc.. its in the same place.. but under the exuast manifold.. you cant really see it to well, but you can feel it.. another reason to wait till the car is cool.. becasure you will burn your hand off if you try and do it while its hot

Re: temp gauge/ probe

unplug the sending unit that every one else is talking about.
it should be one wire.
ground the wire to the block.
your gage should go all the way in the red.
if it does then the sensor they are talking about is bad.
if it does not go all the way in the red then you have a bad gage or a bad wire between the sensor and the gage.
