Intake thread (once again)

I have looked at all the other threads and still can't tell if i want to go with the Injen, AEM, or Dejontools...I heard more than once that AEM sucks so i am between Injen and Dejon more-so than anything. Injen is expensive but does it prove to give more horse and better all around quality? The Dejon is nice with different colors and half the cost.

Also do i get the one that says stock BOV or aftermarket, if i plan on getting a Greddy Type S BOV. It would be much appreciated to have your input. Sorry to be repetitious but didn't see anything that helped me out.

save yourself some money and make your own... why not? there are a lot of people that use a home made one, sure they are not as nice and shinny but they work the same! get some chrome spray paint and now you got the bling bling home made intake!!! i guess its your money but this is my advice to you IMO...

Re: Intake thread (once again)

I went to a performance shop today with the same question, they said that it isnt even necessary to swap out that intake downpipe unless you are going for show because the hp gains aren't noticable. better off going cheap and getting a 65$ K&N.

Same question here: As for the afternmarket or stock BOV, is that refering to where the dump tube enters that intake pipe..aftermarket BOV=no inlet for dump tube....and stock=does have inlet, i dont get it.

Also what BOV do should i go with if i want it to be noticably loud (without interfering with performance) without venting to atmosphere, any ideas?

Re: Intake thread (once again)

I dunno i have read that the intake pipe that goes along with the stock BOV should fit the Greddy Type S, but here is a site of some BOV to look at

Re: Intake thread (once again)

Damn MAF sensor...Im probably just going to go with a 1g polished bov seems to be the best bang for the buck. I have given up all hope on having a loud bov, i dont want to vent it into the atmosphere so there isnt much more i can do...
what is it that you like about the greddy?

Re: Intake thread (once again)

What i like is the simplicity of it, no having to do anything special to get it to dump back in like the HKS SSQV, although its sweet lookin to expensive for my pockets, plus with future upgrades i am looking at the Greddy Type S is just fine, i never plan on pumping over 26psi prolly let alone 20. I guess i am a style type and with the Evo Catback from Greddy why not the BOV. I won't get the BOV until i have the UICP ready which i have questions on that also. Like what size i need. In the future i plan on getting a FMIC so just have to make sure it will all fit together!

Re: Intake thread (once again)

another thing i talked to my performance shop about is the uicp...he said dont waste your money on an uicp if you plan on getting a fmic because it will come with new piping. the smic and fmic piping is different.

Re: Intake thread (once again)

I just installed my Dejon "L" pipe today and it's all good. I don't really like Injen. At the time there filter kit was cheaper (and smaller) than the K&N one. Hands down Dejon has better quality, plus there custom made for anything you want to do. Like i stated before, my BOV is 2g stock style and the fitment was great, it actually put the valve in a better position than the stock pipe.

Re: Intake thread (once again)

yeah i am not sure about that, that is why i am wondering if when i get the UICP i will just get the Greddy one because i know what FMIC i am getting the 24R or 18R Greddy one...not sure though, i bet a million bucks other guys on here will answer that question more so than i can!

although i would like to get a colored one the same as my intake...just have to wait and see

Re: Intake thread (once again)

1. Intake pipe and UICP aren't the same thing. (UICP is BOV pipe)
2. Injen is expensive, so go with Dejon... same thing
3. Whoever told you an intake pipe won't do anything is a retard.
4. If you don't have an intake pipe yet, you aren't even CLOSE to a FMIC. Buy a UICP for the sidemount unless you're getting a FMIC in the next few months.
5. Greddy FMIC is overpriced, like all of their stuff. Try a SBR kit.

gstclips, the 'shop' you talk to doesn't know shit. You will FEEL the power from an intake pipe. Also, they are wrong about the UICP. Also, I paid $37 dollars for my filter, adapter, AND intake pipe... so getting a $65 K&N is nice and all, but I spent less and am faster.

Re: Intake thread (once again)

Will the UICP for the sidemount also fit the FMIC once i attain that, which will be longer than a few months by the way. I am planning on the dejontool right now from what i have heck of a lot cheaper and also the selection of colors is helpful. After buying an intake pipe upgrade the UICP? Both the S and L pipe or can i do one at a time and if so which one first? If i can't afford both at the same time.

Re: Intake thread (once again)

I was about to post and make the pipe sections clear.

1. UIC "S" pipe replaces the stock TB(throttlebody) Elbow to the section of stock plastic pipe used by the DV (diverter valve/Recirc valve)

2. UIC "L" pipe is the most restrictive of all your pipes on the 2g. It runs from the DV to the sidemount intercooler. This is the first one you want to replace, the stock intake pipe with mods is not nearly as restrictive as the stock "L" section.

3. Lower "S" probly the last on the list for any type of noticible gains on a close to stock car. Replace it if you have the cash

Yes, you can do each section seperate. But from above i would tell you to do the most restrictive first. After doing the "L" pipe you should get slightly better high end performance out of your stock turbo. BOV or DV sound will change alittle, alot if you have the other mods talked about. Also, my turbo was free enough to crank out one more pound of boost than before. I had to re tune my MBC. Kinda shows you the pressure drop across that pipe section.

As far as intercooler piping, don't worry too much about fitment. Unless your doing some wacky setup, most kits use the same hole in the engine bay to run pipe back to the TB.

The way to really go is to have someone custom make the lower piping based on the core you like and what turbo you plan to run. You might need other sections like a turbo "J" pipe for a 14b through Evo 16.

Re: Intake thread (once again)

If you aren't looking to buy a fmic just yet (when you do look into the SBR/kinetic, or a spearco and get custom piping bent. I have the SBR) But until then, go ahead and spend the couple bucks and get the piping from dejon tool. it will be a good improvement and will hold you till you have the cash to get a front mount. You don't even need one till you upgrade your turbo. so I'm guessing that won't be for a while. Go with a 1g BOV or a type-s (better sound and looks if thats important) a dejontool intake pipe or injen. depends on the $$ you want to spend. and the dejontool piping. then worry about exhaust. turbo back if possible. and make sure you have a boost guage and boost controller. I think I saw posts about both on here for you already. Good luck.

Re: Intake thread (once again)

All right thanks, so get the L first and foremost with new BOV, does the sidemount larger intercooler do much or should i justwait and go with the FMIC. Kinda off topic with intake, but should i go ahead and get a MBC now or save up and get an electronic one?

Re: Intake thread (once again)

it's up to you and your budget. The mbc's are fine if you're low on cash. go with a joe p. if you don't mind saving and like to be able to adjust things with the push of a button and not have to pop the hood every time. then go with the electronic. I have the greddy profec BII. it's very popular and easy to use. also the installation is a breeze. I'm still waitin on the turbo to come in and I also need to get a pda for my datalogger. so hopefully I"ll be able to get everything up and running here shortly.

back on track... yes. replace as much of the stock piping as possible. and get a better BOV. I wouldn't worry about upgrading the smic. you're not going to need to worry about that with your current mods. just wait and get an fmic. I would also at least get the fipk and hack your dump tube. if you can't afford the whole intake yet. then push the boost up to about 15 psi with your handy little boost controller and enjoy!
