question on ecu and vtec
My VTEC D16Z6 swap has been done for quite a while now, and she runs strong as i thought it would. my question now is how do i get the vtec hooked up. i am definitely doin it the right way and getten the D16Z6 ECU cuz i still have the stock ecu in my 89 rex si. now i have seen d16z6 "chips" on ebay. i would still have to buy the z6 ecu tho right? btw, where can i get a z6 ecu to hook the vtec up? and how much?

Re: question on ecu and vtec
ecu will run anywhere from $150+. the easiest way to hook it up is with a conversion harness. you plug your stock harness into 1 end and the other end into the z6 (p28) ecu. those are i believe $175-ish shipped.
gimmine a minute and i'll be back with a pic of the conversion harness. you can always try wiring it yourself...i don't have any links handy. hoever, i'm sure somebody will be here shortly who does

I thought that if you didnt have the right ecu for the right engine, it wouldnt work properly. it wouldnt adjust the right fuel and oil pressure in order to operate the vtec properly.

Re: question on ecu and vtec
the ECU doesnt adjust oil pressure. it activates a solenoid.
If you chip your ECU, you can make a program that properly simulates any other ECU you want. |

OK, someone tell me if i am right. I want to get the Z6 ecu to activate the vtec, but in order to do that i will need to get like a universal wiring harness thingy, like Amy said? if so, where can i get one? and a cheap ecu?

Re: question on ecu and vtec
ive seen stock ecu's on ebay. if your thinking of buying one of the "performance" chips off ebay just be careful. i bought one for my 95 civic and paid to have it put in and it didnt do diddly squat
