Unhappy even the tow truck driver was amazed...

Hey Everyone,

I haven’t posted in awhile – I know I should be ashamed. Unfortunately I have sad news. My poor little Aurora was smacked up the another night. My roommate and I were screwing around with the cars – he has a 98 Mark VIII and it was all in innocent fun when he decided it would be fun to do some doughnuts in a FWD car well needless to say he started a little to far off from the center of the road and my poor car hit a curb sidewise at great speed.

There was no body damage whatsoever, which was great but the passenger side tire is now sticking out at quite an angle. We needed to replace the lower control arm, both tie rod piece, the rim, and hopefully not much more. Those are at least all the parts we’ve acquired… It’s quite an interesting site (even the tow truck driver was amazed at how the tire looked) and even more interesting the tire remained intact. We were lucky we were only doing this in front of our house so we were able to drive it back in despite the tires now fighting against each other.
Oh well things happen... My roommate did feel really bad and I think that was the most important thing to me...

Re: even the tow truck driver was amazed...

To be honest with you, not as much as I thought it would be.
1. I lucked out because we have connections with some local mechanics who have shops equipped with lifts.

2. We managed to find a lot of parts at a salvage yard in mint condition. I'd say the whole thing was maybe under 500 including store bought parts, I am not sure what the last couple parts cost because they were ordered through the shop itself. They had something to do with the axle and torque pressure so we got that changed out too.

...and yes I know 500 is a lot but if you saw what that wheel looked like sticking out of the car at that 45 degree angle you'd understand.

Re: even the tow truck driver was amazed...

Well I just thought I’d add an update to my car situation… I still don’t have it back yet because when they were backing it off the lift and the axle snapped so they added that on to the parts we needed to get. So since the last time I posted we needed to get a new wheel hub and axle. Although we did get that all straightened out (no pun intended) and now it just needs a serious alignment and new tires – although they never blew thank god for good performance tires.
