Re: 1966 Impala Largest Wheel/Tire
I think a 10" wheel will fit. I was using 9" wheels on my '65 with a little room to spare. Any custom wheel shop should be able to tell you what will fit. You can also measure it yourself by taking off one of the front and rear wheels. You'll need a framers square and a combination square. You will need to know the height and width of both the wheel and tires you are hoping to use. If you are planning to use a 15" wheel you will need to measure 7.5" up from the center of the brake drum. Place the framers square on the brake drum and use the combination square to measere the distance from the side of the square touching the drum to the interior side of the wheel well and subtract at least an inch, this will be your maximum back spacing. Then measure from the square to the exterior side of the wheel well (subtract an inch) and add the numbers together, this is the width of wheel you can use. use this same procedure to determine if the tire will also fit.
Note: if you have lowered your car the measurements will be different from side to side at the rear tires. This is because the panhard bar will push the rear axle slightly to one side. It is best to measeure both sides when measuring the rear wheels.
