96 Contour Stalls when normal temp

I'm doing a favor for a needy person, complaint is car wont run, so, 2.5 auto. I check oil level - look at engine, everything seems ok, I turn ignition on, hear fuel pump buzz, car starts up normal, take it for test ride, car runs great, power - shifts thru gears, temp guage rises up, car stalls. turns over fine, will not start. I place extra spark plug into each cyls 1-4, nice spark on each igniton seems ok. still will not start.,
If i hold pedal to floor, car seems to run but on like 2 clyls.. or really flooding out big time. strong odor of gas. Let car sit for a while, starts right up, runs great, then dies.

Any suggestions? Thank you fonr reading this far. bob

Cont..

SORRY, but forgot to give history. Car was smoking when running, had been supposedly overfilled with oil, garage mech changed mass air flow sensor, changed oil. This problem only has been since garage mech serviced it. Lady, picked up car, SEL is on.

LOCATED Prob

I removed air cleaner assbly, and found the egr tube had rotted, in half,
that craeted the hot exhaust blowing against part of the wring harness,
which in turn melted it, or most of it.

I attempted to remove the egr tube from the catalyitic converter, and mushed up the threads on the cat. now I'm f@#$.

cut into the melted blob, seperated most of the wires, tonight i'll cut back and repair the wiring.

back to the cat egr tube,
any ideas?

If you need an exhaust egr assembly, I have a used one with 90K on it. Ill sell it to you for cheap.
