Question In need of info

Okay, I was gifted a truck about a year ago and have been looking to make it more than it is. I have done research on it and got all the info from GM that they could give me.

1992 GMC Sonoma
360 longblock
Heavy Duty(unsure type) shocks
4 leaf springs per rear tire
Modified transmission (?)

Now this was built for a power company to haul transformers around with when they were doing a full overhaul of their power service. What can be suggested for mods?

Currently I am re-finishing the body due to some bad rust including 3 1/2 inch dia. holes where the lightbar was connected. I have driven this truck on and off for about 7 years or so. It still runs pretty well, will still peel at 50mph when passing, and the steel bumpers have destroyed one cement support for a light pole and one New Jersey State trooper car.

Any info or suggestions would be great.

Re: In need of info

whats a 360?? does it have a friggen dodge v-8? or something. you might want to work on the the rear suspension if you're running that much torque, add some anti-hop or latter bars. my buddy had an s-10 with a built up 350 and it would hop like crazy but he could pop it into 3rd at 50 and it would burn the shit out of the tires. if all the drive train is in good shape you might wanna consider getting a parts truck with a good body and swaping the body, this isn't as hard as it sounds.
sounds like a fun ride

Correction

Actually the 360 is a typo, it is a factory installed 361 long block, sorry for the mistake.

Yes it is a fun truck even in the poor condition it is in, currently when the engine is revved the whole truck twists, but I wouldn't mind giving it a more throaty sound to it. I have thought about going for straight pipes as I complete the body repairs. And an improvement to the rear end is currently in the planning stage thanks to your post.

By the way, from what I have gathered, the 361 was a factory option for companies who needed more load capacity for their trucks. I have yet to find an upper limit to the weight it will haul (current attempts have brought it to 1600lbs in the bed).
