Extra Gas Tank Capacity...Want some?

I finished this project last fall. It was a little work but well worth the extra 5 gallons that now fit into my gas tank.

It appears that Jeep put 20 gallon tanks into all of their Wranglers. I'm not sure when the changed this practice...or if they have. My tank use to only fill to 15 gallons...until...

An aquantance told me that there was a filler tube in the gas tank that allowed it to only fill to around 15 gallons. Simply, it would not let the air in the top 5 gallons escape when filling the tank. I dropped the tank, pulled the tube, put the tank back up and now have an extra 80 to 100 mile range. (That is...after I fix the rear end. The fun was somewhat short lived...but definately worth the experience.)

If anyone is interested I would be happy to share some of the details of the tank removal and reinstallation. There are definately some things to be aware of when starting this modification.

Re: Extra Gas Tank Capacity...Want some?

This works on 91-95 Wranglers with the plastic tank.
You'll need another fuel pump assy if you want the gauge to read correctly. It will show 'FULL" until the extra 5 gallons are gone, then will read normally. I saved the 200 bucks and will live with it.
