Re: Some modified Evo VIII pictures.

Thats a US spec car yes?

If so, care to go into more detial with what you did to it?
My understanding is that the US spec EVO 8 runs an EVO 6 spec engine and driveline.
And I do wonder what other differnces came with, especialy with the suspension etc.
The World spec EVO 8 is quite differnte to the Cedia its based on (Lancer in the US and Oz), sharing only the basic shell and some interior parts.

Its a US spec car. The Evo VII , VIII are very close worldwide , with a few minor differences.

The US VIII has a 5 speed , and no active diffs.

The car has your basic bolt on upgrades , more attention to the suspension than the engine.

Re: Some modified Evo VIII pictures.

cheers, I knew the 8 was only an advance on the 7, we've been getting them here since the EVO 1 remember

It seems the US Spec EVO 8 has the 6 running gear, and I wondered if it had only 240hp (60less than the rest of the world) because of the older gear box and diffs, or because it used an EVO 6 spec engine. There are some quite major differnces between the two, including differnt turbo and manifolds, as well as differnt internals.

It almost seems that Mitsi US was allowed to build thier own EVO 8 out of what ever they could find in the parts bin, like they wern't considered worth of a real EVO 8 by Mitsi Japan.

Re: Some modified Evo VIII pictures.

No active diffs.... probably the US market is not "smart" enough to deal with them.

The Evo is rated at 271 hp here in the US. We see about 230 hp at the wheels on a 4 wheel dyno. We do have 91 (RON+MON/2) fuel here... not the greatest stuff to make power.

Supposedly the EVO VIII exhaust manifold is the best. The turbo is not too bad. Some people making 350 wheel horsepower on it.

Its a very fast , very fun car. With or without active diffs.

Re: Some modified Evo VIII pictures.

Iv actualy heard people prefer the car with out the active diffs, the car might be a little slower, but is a lot more responsive and reliant upon driver skill.

270hp is pretty good, I actualy thought the US spec car had quite a bit less than that, but its still well short of the 300+ the rest of the world gets.
Here in NZ we have some of the worst fuel in the world, yet we get a standard spec car sold here new with a full warrenty, so fuel quality can't be the main reason.
Emissions are the most commonly claimed reason, yet Japan and Europe also have very tight controls, those in Japan matching and often excedding those of the US (even California).
I doubt we will ever know, but its interesting to speculate about such things.

Thats a very tidy car you have created there by the way, is it destined for compition? or just show?

Same here. RB's Evo looked great, and performed very well, especially with some of the mildest tuning in the comparison.

Btw, Motorex still hasn't gotten around the OBD2 thing yet, have they? Just wondering.

Re: Some modified Evo VIII pictures.

We only did ok in the competition. No time for good tires , corner balancing , or alignment. No time for tuning. Still it was as fast or faster around the track than the cars with 70 more wheel horsepower. Also about as fast as some down the 1/4 mile. There are always a few tricks - you dont need just power...

I actually had the car out at the track today , with the guys from SoCal Evo.

Getting it all dialed in. New HKS Kansai Adjustable sway bar in the rear. Unfortunately - I only had the 19" Dunlop SP's to run on.... not really a track tire.

OBD-II - nothing I have heard recently.
