91 crx engine and tranny fit in 92 civic cx?

I'm trying to find out if a 91 crx motor and tranny (manual) will drop in as a replacement to my broken 92 civic cx motor? is all the wiring the same? do I need the computer out of the crx? any info would be greatly appreciated.

AC

The trans from the crx is a cable, and the CX is a hydrolic, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the CX is OBD 1? and the crx isn't.

Basically, It's gonna be a pain in the ass.

When I bought my 94 cx with a blown engine, I just spend a couple hundred, and bought a 94 DX engine from a junkyard (it ran when it was pulled) and rebuilt it, used the old cx trans. The car doesn't have much low end to it, but it has great mid to high end power, and gets good milage. If you're going for cheap, I recommend this, or some other compatable D series.

that's what i was afraid of.....especially since I allready have a 92 crx motor and tranny. I am going for cheap since this is nothing but a daily driver, but a local junkyard wanted 600 dollars for a engine that came out of my model year civic....does that sound a little high?

Do the junkyards in your area have any engines that need something like a head gasket? That should be cheaper, and easy to do especially when the engine is out of the car.

And you don't need the manifolds, if that makes a difference on price.

that's a good idea....the price i got was for a complete running motor top to bottom. Of course, I was aiming for that since my automotive skills are really not that advanced. I think I could probably tackle a little head work if I need to.

Re: 91 crx engine and tranny fit in 92 civic cx?

I just thought of something.....my stock 92 civic motor had a cracked head, can I just swap the 91 crx head over to my civic motor and bolt it in or is that not possible?

Well, they're both D series, and non-vtec, so if you use the 92's manifolds, then I would say that you could. However, I don't know for sure, so it would be nice to have someone else's opinion.

I will tell you that if the head and block have different amounts of wear on them, that it WILL screw with the compression ratio. If the head is considerably newer than the block, then it will burn oil.

I am just wondering why you would think that, how old they are doesnt mean anything, now if the rings are shot it could burn oil, but that would be considered the block, if the head doesnt seal to the block it could burn oil but that could be a damaged deck surface, warped head, sh**y headgasket, so nothuing to do with age there, and maybe the valve seals are bad letting oil through then it could burn oil like that, and thats drealing wiht the head, but not cuz it is newer than the block, but because it is poor condition, so probably the older the head the greater the chance of this.
