Re: Im New

if your battery is dead or weak charge it with a battery charger. this will take a big strain off of your alt.

It is only good to replace the broken (not properly working parts of your car. The car is not so new to replace the alternator just for fun, HOWEVER if you have problems with yuor battery (does not turn the starter) or if you have all electrical equipment turned on the battery is going dead, or if your lights (DASH BOARD) is going dim and then all over sudden light then very dim, like jumps -- you definately have a problem with your alternator. Also you can come to mechanics shop if you got any friends there and just to ask them to check the charge which is coming to the battery you might get an answer right there. I had a lot of De Vills from 1978 up to 1994 years and know these cars a little...
Good luck!
Greg.
