Re: 350 small block and 5spd. manual tranny in a 85-88 fiero?

V8 Fieros haul booty and then some, but I'd think it'd be hard to find a manual transaxle that would fit AND hold up to a 350. Come to think of it, I can't think of anything automatic that would fit a 350 either(assuming you mean the Chevy block, not the Olds rocket block). I'd go the route of a late 70's Olds Toronado or Caddilac ElDorado drivetrain, the engine and transaxle should wedge in rather easily. Whatever v8 you put in, cooling is highly important.

Now if it were me, I'd settle for a supercharged or twin turbo v6.

74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!!
3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L)

Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????

Go to V8Archies web site, as he has done tons of V8 swaps including Corvette LT1's and many of them were using auto tranny's. I myself prefer a 5 speed and as long as the clutch used is a solid heavy duty one it "should" last you thru a few street lights at least LOL

Anything is possible, I have read 2 articles years ago in magazines. One was done using a 350 chevy small block and another with a 400. However they had to do heavy mods from what I remember reading. Custom Camaro shocks as I recall were used to keep the nose from lifting off the ground at speed. The 350 had the rear deck grill cut out to allow the 2 breathers through.

As for the performance, I read that one of those engines in a Fiero, (don't remember which) was doing mid 9's in a 1/4 mile.

Hope that helps.

Though I hate to stick my foot in my mouth, I just recently discovered they seem to make bell housing adapter plates that convert anything to fit anything else now days, and the stock 5 speeds in Fieros are pretty tough creatures.

Probably used a front spoiler for that too, as well as stiffer suspension in back to handle the extra engine weight.

OW! I know what you mean, I once learned an 84' fox body mustang hatchback was not designed to handle a 450 HP 351C. The car stayed put and the rear end took off without it.... sideways....
