Hey guys, i'm new here, and i came to see if you gu ys could help me out or referance me some help.
I drive a grand marquis 1990 (obviously) i'm not a big huge car buff, in fact i know very little. but i do have a good aptitude for thigns as long as they are explained. my fuse number 8 which controls interior lights and dashboard lights and my cd player, is giving me alot of trouble. at first it started when my mom drove my car, when i got back in the fuse had popped at some point between her driving the car and me getting in. this resulted in me replacing the fuse, and it continuing to pop. not having the money to take it to the shop i just said screw it and left ita lone for awhile. then i put in another fuse and it worked fine like nothing had happened. *months later and a new cd player later* my boss drives my car, i get in and the fuse has popped, thinking i know whats going to happen it keeps popping fuses.. pissed off (i had just spent about 250 in audio related stuff. i put in a 25 fuse (into a 15 slot) and it works. i clean out my car and go inside my friends come over and tell me that my lights are on in my car, i go outside and check, the lights are on but all doors are closed, and all knobs turned to off position. i also notice. that when i turn on my car, not only do my interior lights stay on, but the seat belt chime just keeps on going.... i have no fuse currently in the slot 8 right now, but i can go back down to a 15 and it does the same thing. i have thought of a couple solutions that i'm not to sure about how great they are. or how to do them thus me coming here. 1. reroute my stereo stuff to a different unused fuse. and leave fuse 8 alone. 2. disable the lights and door chime. 3. figure out why it is doing it an actually try to fix it ( i havent heard any good explanations which is why i have the first 2). thanks for your time guys. |

Re: Electrical Troubles, on a 1990
There should be a white button on the inside of the driver's door that regulates both the interior light and the chime. Remove that and inspect the wiring on that unit. I had a 1988 CV that did the same thing and found that this unit had actually burned the wiring and the constant contact caused the computer to react as though the door had been opened.
