power steering

Im doing a b16a1 swap into a 90 civic dx. The power steering looks like a poblem cause i need the A/C, to hot in traffic. Is there a way I can keep the P/S or should i just scrap it. If I do get rid of the P/S do i just cut the lines from the pump or is there something else that needs to be done.

Just scrap it... it's not really as hard to turn your wheel without it as you think... eventually you don't even notice the power steering is gone. As for removal... all the hardware should be easy to remove once you have the engine out of the engine bay.
If you're going to keep your A/C, you're going to need to get an adapter mounting bracket from either HASport, or HCP Engineering, depending on who you buy your mounts from for the swap.

90% the B16As in the standard SiRs came with power steering, it was an option NOT to have it although the race-stripped varient came without it from the factory. It runs off a different bracket to your AC so you should be able to run both if you have the original brackets for it.

It may be different to the hasport etc mounted engines, but I have AC and PS on my SiR factory fitted. Given the engine bay dimensions are the same as the ED6, I don't see why you can't have both unless the custom mounts locate the motor in a considerably different spot to the factory EF8/9 position.

Q: If he removes the PS pump etc, he will also have to swap to a non-PS setup won't he?

well, the main problem with having A/C with the B16A's is most people I know with them say that they never got an A/C pump bracket or P/S pump bracket.... I'm not sure how that could be possible though, because when I got my engine it had both power steering and a/c brackets.. just no pumps.
An easy way to tell if the engine's a/c and p/s was removed or not is to look at the crank pully.... if you've got a lip for the a/c belt and one for the p/s belt, then the engine originally had a/c and p/s... honda didn't waste the space on the pulleys.. if the engine didn't have p/s, it only had a lip for the alternator and a/c... if it didn't have a/c either, it only had a lip for the alternator.

no, he doesn't have to swap in a non-p/s set up.. it should function the same without doing that... all the hardware should be removable from the current steering set up.
