They're called O2 Sims(simulators). Common to see them on cars with removed/gutted cats. They plug in and fool your ecm into thinking the cat(s) is/are there still. Without them, the real sensors will register a malfunction and you will get a check engine light. Not really detrimental to your car's performance, but the light is annoying if you ask me.

Also aren't they for if you have an external BOV that vents into the atmosphere to prevent your engine from running lean by thinking those exhaust gases ae still there?

Re: Fake O2 signal Generators

Well, I can only speak for the MR2 .... that O2 sensor is after the turbine amd before the cat, so the 02 doesn't know a thing about the cat.

It doesn't make sense to me that an O2 would ever be aftera cat.

Also, the O2 only affects A/F on the MR2 at idle and while steady cruise ... so there is zero performance to be gained there.

Re: Fake O2 signal Generators

The Turbo MR2 does have 2 cats ... but you are correct, it is not OBD2.
