hiring harness

i bought a harness for my 2004 cav and the instructions said that there is not a ignition wire to make the radio turn off when you turn the car off. it gave me about 5' of red wire and a fuse tap. how do i wire it?

Re: hiring harness

Uh..."radio adapter harness" I assume?
The way you wanna wire it is to run the radio's "always hot" fused lead to a terminal or wire in your original harness that is always hot even with the key off-that's you radio's clock/memory wire-fuse that sucker as you can't turn it off if something goes wrong and it shorts out. It'll burn ya car to the ground otherwise.
The +12v power lead from your radio should also be fused and go to a terminal on your fuse block that goes dead when you turn off the key.
It should only be live when you turn the key to "on" or to "accessory".
Run that 5' of red wire to the "ign/acc" terminal or similar. (DON'T forget the fuse!)
