Recommend A Digital Camera?

You guys have inspired me with the recent "photojournalism" threads to get a few shots of my trips from now on. Theres just one problem I have 3 digital camera's but none of them can produce high quality photo's or have enough memory.

Can anyone recommend me a good camera in the 200-300$ range? I've been looking at Sipix camera's but some of them seem mediocre for the price that they are asking. Any help would be appreciated and I shall reward you all with some insane and beautiful shots.

Re: Recommend A Digital Camera?

I bought a really nice 3CCD video camera, so I just use it as a still camera also. It is a little bigger (about the size of coke can), but serves 2 purposes for about the same amound of money as a decent digicam...

Some of the the Sony cameras are excellent for a low price. I used to have a Sony but then I dropped it at a Sharks game. Now I have a Nikon 5700 and it is excellent.

Re: Recommend A Digital Camera?

i got the panasonic nv-gs120

I don't think it is in the states just yet, but as far as picture quality, it is incredible.

The mini DV still seems the way to go for motion cameras, as the recordable dvd ones are still having problems over here with disc compatability and price.

Re: Re: Recommend A Digital Camera?

Canon or Sony, I wouldn't touch anything else, they are all compromised somewhere.

The Nikons are good, but lack a lot of features that make digital photography fun. And the technology is still at a point where having as much control over the shot as possible is the only way to get the best pics. The more Auto Features a camera has and the less manaul control it has the worse the pics it will take.

Also remember that its a mix of both optical and digital technology. Canon is the only company with experiance in producing both. While a Nixon or Fuji might have a nice lens, its digital processing ablity will not be as good as the canons, and while an HP might have a good CCD, its lens will not be as sharp.
Sony come close to the canons because they out sourced thier lens design to a lens manufactor. However they are aiming at a slightly differnt market than the canons, more the casual user who only wants to use the auto shooting modes.

well.. if you really feel like getting a good camera, get a kodak dcs 620 professional... they stopped making them... but damn that is one fun camera. They used to retail for around 6,400... but for low end, go cannon, they're super simple to use, great features, and really durable too.

Re: Recommend A Digital Camera?

I downgraded to a Kodak CX6230. I had a Cannon Powershot A2 which was 3megapixel, and a Fuji Finepix A300. Those misteriously disappeard after the ex moved out.

Upside the Kodak has 8mb of onboard memory, I bought a 64MB SD card for it. It seems to take some nice pics but the zoom leave's much to be desired. Whole thing SD card included set me back 189.00 bones. Bought it at walmart.
