tranny slippin?

something knocks when i press hard on the gas during a start-off? is it the tranny or axle? what could be the cause? its not serious yet, it only does it if i floor it from a start-off.

check the crossmember mount. i had a problem similar with a th350, except is was ticking while going down the road, sounded like a lifter. a few miles later it started jumping between 2nd and 3rd gear and when i parked it i had nothin. turned out the tabs on the pump broke off and i think it burnt the clutches

yeah, the same thing happened to my car too. Sounds horrible.. and it was only when i hammered on the gas.. almost sounds like something's hitting the drivers side of the car.. but as most of my problems do.. it seems to have gone away..

Re: tranny slippin?

yeah sounds like something is loose or wore out, and when you gas it and the chassis twists the vibration of the engine, or in this case, the chug chung chug as it takes off, is making two things bang together. as to what it is, more than likely an engine mount tranny mount or something like that, but not 100% sure.

from what you just said, it makes it sound more and more like the tranny mount.

Re: tranny slippin?

My 700R4 started doin somethin similar a couple weeks before I pulled the pan off and pulled more metal scraps out then I did fluid.. Can you be a little more specific? is it a metal to metal? like a grinding or just a quick knock.. can you feel it in the shifter?

Put your car in gear, hold the brake down and give it a bit of gas.. If it revs up then jerks, or knocks.. your trannys probably starting to slip.. try it in forward and reverse..

Re: tranny slippin?

it could be the mount, but it also could be in the transmission (when you gas it, does the trans slip? like, does the car sound like youre revin it in neutral before it goes into gear?)

yea it does feel like its slippin... it starts off slow and then kicks into gear a few seconds later... so how do i correct this problem? cuz if ill have to rebuild it, im better off just buying another tranny. unless i can still correct this problem before its necessary to rebuild.

Shitty, thats internal failure (components like the bands in your tranny are worn) this means you gotta get a rebuild..its gonna get worse until it wont go into gear at all

put a jack and a board underneath the pan towards the rear of the car and slowly jack it up, you'll be able to tell if the mount is broke or worn out. if that's not it, then it's most likely internal.

i would guess its not internal, i had the same problem with mine. i broke the rear transmission mount and when i slammed on the gas the driveshaft would get pushed up against the chasis. turns out the mount had split in half, replaced the mount with a polyurethane one and problem was solved. that was a mistake i made when i revved the engine and accidentally dropped it into drive... snapped that thing in half

but i dont think that would cause it to slip??

by slip i mean: i push down the gas... it revs... about a second later... bamm... big ass knock... and it accelerates... it also does something like this while im moving, theres a hesitation when i press down the gas, the response happens a few seconds later when it feels like it kicked into gear and then it hauls. it doesnt do the knock while moving though even if i floor it.
