can't seem to get edlebrock 610 carb to tune with my 305

Is this a compatibility issue or just simple operator error?

Re: can't seem to get edlebrock 610 carb to tune with my 305

i've had a fair bit of experience with edelbrock/carter performer carbs. i'm not sure what you mean by 610 i assume it's a CFM rating. most of the carb numbers are something like 1406. anyways what is it doing? are all the vacuum lines& pcv hooked up correctly? is the power brake port plugged off? as well as any unused vacuum ports?
did you replace the manifold too or add an adaptor plate? i assume the timings correct. first you should check it for loading up(too much fuel) rev the engine and flip the choke closed then open it just before it dies, do this a few times. now does it act normal for about 10 seconds then run like crap? i've seen a few where the floats are bent and don't close the needle valve all the way. this is most likely your problem if everythings set up right. as far as tuning goes these things are super simple i usually use a good vacuum gage to set the idle mixture to max vacuum. if it sputters a little bit durring acceleration but picks up when the revs do you need to step down the metering rods a size of 2 to let more fuel in. if you give me a little more info i can be more specific.
